Talvitanssit / Vinterdanser / Winterdances is a dynamic celebration of dance, film, and music, offering meaningful cultural experiences for audiences of all backgrounds. The event focuses on themes of connection, inclusivity, and the universal language of movement, exploring profound concepts such as acceptance, relationships, identity, and love. Through live performances and carefully curated dance film screenings, Winterdances inspires creativity, fosters dialogue, and enhances appreciation for the performing arts. The program is designed to engage both schools and the general public, ensuring a wide-reaching impact.
Winterdances is produced by Tanssiartesaani in collaboration with Loviisa Taiteen Tukiyhdistys, which organizes the Art in Lov residency program. Each year, international performing artists are invited to Loviisa for a residency project, collaborating with local artists to create unique performances showcased during the Winterdances Festival.
Winterdances offers a variety of events tailored to different audiences, aiming to make its performances and screenings accessible to a broader public. Since 2025, Winterdances has expanded its partnerships, bringing the festival to Loviisa, Porvoo, and even Sweden, where selected dance films are screened as part of Dansfilmsdagar, organized by Scenkonst Sörmland.
Open Call for Short Dance Films
The festival’s film screenings are curated through an annual Open Call for Short Dance Films, hosted on the FilmFreeWay platform. This initiative allows us to present diverse and innovative works, showcasing the richness of the dance film genre to audiences across borders.
